On 14th September 2025, a solidarity event for the people of Palestine
On 14th September 2025, a solidarity event for the people of Palestine was organized by the Socialist Youth Union (SYU) in Sri Lanka.
The event was graced by the presence of Hon. Rizvie Salih, Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Committees of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, together with Mahela Amarasooriya, Vice President of the World Federation of Democratic Youth, Eranga Gunasekara, Deputy minister of youth affairs and the National Organiser of the Socialist Youth Union, and Anjana Sampath, International Secretary of the Socialist Youth Union. Activists from both the Socialist Youth Union (SYU) and the Socialist Students Union (SSU) also participated.
During the occasion, several activists delivered speeches, and symbolic paper lamps were lit and set afloat on the water as a gesture of hope for peace for the people of Palestine.
The event was argnized to convey the solidarity with Palestine people who have been suppressed by the ongoing genozide .
Although many countries has declared acceptance of the existence of the free Palestine, rulers of Israel with the support of US led imperialist powers continues the aggression on them. Because of that today, entire humanity faces the grave danger of global conflict. The reckless and destructive actions of imperialist powers are pushing the world towards chaos and confrontation. Their policies have left ordinary people on every side suffocating, fearful, and uncertain of their futures.
For decades, as world Federation of Democratic Youth and all the progressive movements, we have stood with the Palestinian people. We have raised our voices against the crimes of imperialism and demanded the right of Palestinians to live in freedom, dignity, and peace with soverignty and self determination. Today, the people of Palestine are facing genocide before the eyes of the world. Their water supply has been cut off, their homes destroyed, and their children forced to live in hunger and fear. This is not simply a tragedy it is a crime against humanity.
Yet, despite this suffering, the imperialist rulers continue to suppress nations for power and profit. But history also shows that they cannot silence the voices of youth, students, and progressive forces who unite against their actions. Around the world, young people are gathering together to demand an end to these crimes, to resist imperialism, and to fight for peace.
We must also remind that 142 countries have already recognized the existence of both Palestine and Israel as separate states. The United Nations and much of the world have recognized Palestine as an independent state. But today, that independence and the very survival of the Palestinian people are under threat.
Therefore, on behalf of WFDY and the youth of the world, we demand:
The recognition and guarantee of Palestine’s right to exist as an independent state.
An immediate end to the war and the genocide in Gaza.
And a renewed commitment to secure world peace, free from the domination of imperialism and to implement the two state solution.
Let us continue to raise our voices, to build solidarity, and to fight until peace and justice prevail.
